Xpanding Innovative Alliance (XiA)

About the project

XiA (Xpanding Innovative Alliance) strengthens digital interoperability skills in Europe’s health and wellbeing sector and supports the implementation of the European Health Data Space (EHDS). The project maps skills gaps and develops open learning resources, training pathways, micro-credentials and collaborative networks for health professionals, IT specialists, educators and decision-makers.

Objectives

1. Strengthen interoperability skills in health and wellbeing, particularly in relation to the EHDS, health data exchange and digital standards.
2. Identify skills gaps among healthcare professionals, IT specialists, developers and educators.
3. Develop open, modular learning content, learning pathways and micro-credentials for different audiences.
4. Promote the practical adoption of standards, including HL7 FHIR, IHE profiles, EEHRxF and clinical terminologies.
5. Build a European network connecting educational organisations, healthcare, businesses, researchers and decision-makers.

Expected results and outputs

The expected outputs of XiA focus on open European training opportunities that strengthen digital interoperability skills and EHDS readiness in healthcare.
- A review of the current state of interoperability skills, training provision and skills gaps in healthcare and IT
- A competence and curriculum framework combining technical and non-technical skills and defining learning objectives for different audiences
- An open European collection of learning materials and online resources on topics such as EHDS, EEHRxF, HL7 FHIR, IHE, LOINC, SNOMED CT, data quality, ethics and cybersecurity
- Modular microlearning content organised into 20 thematic learning families that can be combined into role-based learning pathways
- Online courses, webinars and practical, participatory learning experiences
- A model for micro-credentials, accreditation, quality assurance and recognition of competence, enabling reuse of materials across organisations
- A collaborative network and alumni activities through which trained specialists drive change across organisational and national boundaries
- A wider outcome: greater readiness to adopt interoperable, secure health data solutions that meet EHDS requirements across Europe
